Pentaerythritol is mainly used in the coating industry and can be used to manufacture alkyd resin coatings, which can improve the hardness, gloss and durability of coating film. It is also used as the raw material of rosin balsam for color paints, varnishes and printing inks, as well as drying oils, anti-fire coatings and aviation lubricants.
In addition, it is also used in prouction of medicine, pesticides and others. Pentaerythritol molecule contains four equivalent hydroxylmethyl groups with high symmetry, so it is often used as raw materials for the preparation of polyfunctional-group compounds.
By nitration, it can be prepared for Pentaerythritol tetranitrate which is a kind of high explosive; It also can be esterified for Pentaerythritol triacrylate as coatings. Meanwhile it can be used as flame retardant of adhesives, and can be obtained expansion-type flame retardant when react with ammonium polyphosphate. It is also used as a crosslinking agent in polyurethanes to provide a branch chain for it.
We normally list 2 years as the shelf life in our COA, the real shelf life is actually much longer than 2 years if it's stocked in good condition (bags are sealed enough, away from direct sun-light, moisture and other incompatible chemical materials)
